I was wondering if anyone who had any experience doing cold emails preferred to use html markup in their cold emails to look professional, or do you just try to keep it personal by using text only?

The way of represent is your choice. Either HTML / TEXT both has same results in some mailing Text shows great results in other type HTML shows great results. So as sender you should have that view what customer expects.
just keep in mind things like optimized and low size, Less spam words.

Good luck.

To achieve the best results with emails, you should try to make them personalized in some way, either by using individual personalization, company-based one, industry-based, and so on. You could maybe combine some HTML markup templates with some personalized text. Also, it's not a bad idea to try out both approaches to see what gives you more open and reply rates and to stick with that later.

It's pretty hard to personalize each mail in this case because I need to send about 15k mails. Thanks for the advice though, I'll keep thinking about how to personalize them. As far as trying both, I may A/B test the html and text formats.

I understand what you are saying, that's why I mentioned different types of personalization. You could segment your emails and contact based on the company they are working in, industry, some geo similarity, and so on, and then do some more general personalization around it. For example, if you are directing emails to some people that work in the travel industry, you could mention some problems or ideas that you have that could help them there. Also, be careful about how many emails are you sending at once, per day, and try to avoid sending identical emails to contacts that work in the same company at the same time.

Thanks for the ideas. I don't think I can go by industry as they are all in the same industry. But geo is possible. Something like "we're looking for X in Y state". But also it might creep them out because I know their location.

For B2B cold mailing the goal is to write a personal email to introduce your self and your service to a potential customer.

You are owner of a company writing a personal email to a manager or owner of another company it doesn't make sense to use html in this case and maybe your email will look suspicious.

In other case if you run an e-commerce store, you'll need to send news letters in html

I would go by segmenting and sending a personalized video at the context level of the subject.

If you're sending cold emails, plain text will always be superior to graphic emails. I've A/B tested it several times on big samples and the lead rate is ALWAYS better on plain text emails. No debate on this, at all :)
I see.

Since you sound like an expert, do you have any recommendations on what to do for sending the emails? Private SMTP self hosted, private IP on mail provider, public IP on mail provider, or something else? Any mail provider you can recommend in general?

Hi,

Never Private SMTP / Self hosted => worst setup, typically Microsoft hates that.

If you send cold emails, send from G Suite or Office 365 accounts, that's the best setup. And use a tool like Emelia / MailMeteor to automate the sending.

For newsletter emails / optin, you can use Sendinblue or Sendgrid.

And for the warming, use Mailreach.
