What are the benefits of develop a website from scratch, coding everything?

Some of you work in this way?

What do you think?

For one, you can customize it according to your needs from the start. Otherwise if you go with WP or other platforms you will first have to learn their functions and how they work.

It's probably faster with a CMS, but creating from scratch allows much more flexibility, quality and control.

For me, No. unless you want some super-specific and rare features.

Wordpress does almost everything now (with the help of plugins). I only recommend coding from scratch if you want to build something specific like SAAS tool or something like that.

Depends on what is being built. If it's just a dirty little wp blog that I need fast, then I would just use a template for saving time.

If it's something more than that like a saas platform or something, I will use a framework like yii and build it from scratch.

As for advantage of coding from scratch, there will be no surprises like a media attachment page that you didn't know existed... Or may be you did not want the structure your page has. If you coded from scratch, you would have exactly what you need.

You can use bootstrap or wordpress for simple sites.
You don't need to reinvent the wheel each time.

One word: customization.

Starting from scratch, you can build your web app as you find fit (provided that you want/need a custom setup). Also, a website built from scratch it's way faster, even on cheap hosting because you create only what you need and do not have the overhead of a CMS.

However, for regular content website, or for landing pages, presentation, front-end etc, I still recommend WP or a CMS because it's way faster to install and launch than to stress over each button, padding, etc of a custom solution. In fact, there are many websites (for example NordVPN) that use Wordpress for landing pages and a custom-built website (presumably from scratch) for their client area.

This is also what we use on our HydraProxy website. Wordpress for presentation and a custom-built web app for our client area.

Depends on the use case, the sources and complexity. I would never code a shopsystem from scratch.

When handling aggregated data i would propably not hassle with wp.
Simple script the parses xml input, api data etc is written in a few hours, drop in some free bootstrap theme, generate files order tree and done.
