I'm clueless when it comes to getting my hands dirty in any technical stuff. But I seen this website the other day (forgot where I seen it now) and thought I would give it a go and see how well I do.

    Code:
     w w w. codecademy. c o m
Sorry for the spacing - won't allow me to post URL's but I guess this is a contribution so hope nobody minds.

Seems pretty interactive and my type of learning - but for those who are more "into" it all, what are views on this? Does it reflect the real job of having to script plugins or features or is this one of those classroom style teachings which doesn't really give any real-world experience as to the type of programming needed.

Either way - at least it's free!

It is a good way of learning. I've suggested it to a few people in the past.

In regards to whether it reflects real programming, it's a start... It will teach you the fundamentals.
It's more of a classroom thing, as you will never learn 'on the job' work until you've made your own scripts/have work experience.
But it's a good place to start.

Later on when you have to code to your clients needs, it helps to know your fundamentals to deal with the wide array of requests.
Another thing to look into is Jquery. 3/4 of the freelance work that I do involves it.

I love codeacademy im not really into javascript or much programming anymore but its an excellent way to learn. Especially for those who are more visually orientated like me.

W3Schools is pretty good, they have a try-it-yourself demo thing you can use.
