Hi.

I've found an EMD with 4,400 local searches. Im from the UK and i presume a .co.uk domain would be best to rank well. But would google value a .org more than a .co.uk? Both are available.

Sorry if it's a bit of a newbie question! Thanks in advance :)

Are you trying to rank for g00gle.co.uk only?

I'd have said the .co.uk personally

Go to Google Insights and Google Keyword tool. If the majority of searches are from the UK do that otherwise you need to go for the .org

Initially yes. Im pretty new with ranking and stuff. So if i wanted to do it globally, i take it you index it on google.com too? Is that right?

If most of the searches are from the UK I'd get the .co.uk

Otherwise, .org

Right. I would think it would depend on what is more valuable to you: UK google searches or global google searches.

If you want to target only UK
Then go with .co.uk

If worldwide then .org is the best choice

Go with the org. You'd rather be ranking globally rather than just locally.

I value both :) How do you rank on both google.co.uk and google.com? Obviously i'd use the .co.uk and .org for the respective sites.

Well you can get both and make on of them to link to the other, i think it will probably be easier to get better place on google with .co.uk if you going to the uk people and it will be harder on .org

only 2 domains will work for UK market:
1) .co.uk
2) .com

-> nothing else

do you need proof??

-> check any 'normal' keyword for 1st 100 results and compare how many .co.uk you see against .org or .info domains

Go with the org. You'd rather be ranking globally rather than just locally.

yes -> with .org you might get some global traffic.. but only, might... and the same even applies to .co.uk domains.

i have 1 .co.uk that gets at least 50 global visitors just because of 1 review

but if you think that 80% of your visitors will be from the UK - go for .co.uk

=====

+ .co.uk rank very well in India as well

.org best compare to co.uk

I prefer both as the fact that matters more is the ip on which the domain is hosted and if you will host your site on an UK based ip then it will help you more in long run. Still if you belong from UK and want to target local audience then you can go for .co.uk.
