.co.uk or .com for backlinking

hi all,

Ive put this in here as my methods will be a little black when back linking.

All I wish to know is, I own a .co.uk and a .com
we will be operating using the .co.uk, now I will be backlinking all over the place all over the net. Is it better to backlink using the .com and redirect the .com to the .co.uk

or should I just backlink the .co.uk

If you wanna rank high in UK then backlink the co.uk domain, if you wanna rank high globally then backlink the .com domain.

I wanna rank high in the uk, just wondered if it was worth playing with the .com, incase of any clever powers it may have with google

If you're targetting UK people only, and this is from my own experience and a load of case studies, the .co.uk is the one to focus all your efforts on - you'll find it's given an automatic headstart for UK based searches. The downside is it'll be much harder to rank your localised .co.uk for internatioal searches, so be sure you want to target UK folks as a priority.

Also, as you have the .com too, don't waste it by just 301ing to the .co.uk for now like a lot of people do. Instead link build that alongside your main domain with independent unique cotent, then just make sure there are contextual links pointing from from the .com to pages on your .co.uk. Further down the line, once you're happy with how the .co.uk is ranking, 301 the .com to your heart's content. Good luck.
