Just bought a co.uk domain to target a uk niche..should buy hosting from a uk base hosting or is my current us hosting find?

Mainly considering the effect on seo if the server is based in the uk or not

UK hosting would be better as Google will check the IP

I can recommend pcsmart hosting, pretty cheap at ~$45 per year and not oversold

Not my company, just a recommendation

Other onsite and offsite factors are going to make a bigger difference than having UK based hosting. Having a .co.uk is a good signal that its a UK centric site! It's not like if you had a non region specific domain extension like .com or .net where you need to give Google a helping hand to figure out what region (or regions) you are targeting.

Make sure you have a quick host. I expect a UK host will give quicker response times to UK users than say a US host, which Google may or not factor in a tiny amount.

All in all, don't worry about it!

PCsmart appear to be UK hosted servers? Find quite a few companies claiming to do UK hosting actually host in Germany, US etc..

geo.flagfox.net is a good tool for checking where they host their own site.

A .co.uk domains tells your UK users that the site is from the UK which can be beneficial especially for an ecommerce site.
A UK host will give your users faster load speed, but hostgators servers have always loaded fast for me in the UK and will not make any difference in rankings.

People often think that in order to target countries like the UK that you need a .co.uk tld when really all you need to do is make sure that you have UK set in the geo location in webmaster tools.

EU hosting will also be fine for the UK

Thanks a lot everyone for the replies.. i've really learned a lot :)

I was also looking for the answer to this question which is now answered. Thanks.

Thanks, useful site

pcsmart (and my domains hosted with them) show as United Kingdom Maidenhead Rapidswitch Ltd which was what I was expecting :)

Some of my .co.uk are hosted in the u.s in Texas and still rank number 1 in google.

So to answer question. Your host doesnt need to be in the u.k to rank well. Content is king.

It is recommended to buy a UK hosting it will be beneficial for your future issues..:)

Now a days, geographical location of your hosting provides plays an important roll in SERPs, so I would also recommend you to choose a reliable web hosting provider from UK.

.co.uk tld is enough to tell g00gle that your target audience is UK, getting a Uk host is not compulsory. also select the region as UK in webmaster tools.
