Has anyone here bought any of the new .co domains or are they considered a complete waste of time?

waste of time. simple fact is .co is not an extension that people recognise. maybe in 20 years time though when people's houses will have a domain name. so if u wanna buy for then, no problem.

Plenty of us have bought them.

The idea that joebob average internet user care about the actual domain url (as opposed to the hypertext title) before clicking through via a search engine is utter shit (unless they are looking for a specific website in the first place).

Whether they will actually be valuable or not depends on whether Google actually supports them as a truly global top level domain, which remains to be seen.

o.co went for $350,000 - bought by overstock. some pretty smart people are inversting in it, although thats a branding thing.

    A waste of $350k ...fowards direct to overstock.com(see toys.com)..

Or an excellent branding strategy(they bought o.biz also), only time will tell

Hmm, i'm not sure that Google are going to like it so much..so it probably will just end up being as difficult to rank as .com and others.

However, you can get loads of keywords in the domain, which will make it easier to rank.

I preregistered a few that I have yet to have added to my account. Name.com is taking their precious time with them.

I'm going to try to grab a few semi-rare .co domains, if I get them I get them, if I don't I'm not going to be devestated.

whats up with the .co domains

    hope for typo's ? :?

otherwise, they would be VERY hard to rank on google..

.co is a country level domain (Columbia)

    just checked ...

Second-level domains (widgets.co) are intended for global use.

    (wikipedia)

so i guess this mean they'll rank :?

    found this too:

.CO will never cease to be Colombia's ccTLD, but it will be marketed to a global user base. .CO is a relevant, credible, and global domain name extension.

    and

.co is the country code top-level domain for the Republic of Colombia

    .. im puzzled

Of course people who are making money are gonna say its a top level domain with just as much chance as a .com to reach the top.

I think typos are gonna be the big money maker here

Does anyone have any "official" links on this? Any good sources as to if this really will be a proper TLD?

    Hmm Columbia.

    .cocaine more like

.co is fine. Harvest half a dozen good ones while you can.

    .com
    .org
    .gov
    .edu
    .co

    All fine.

National ones are fine if you are selling mainly to that nation.
.biz and some others are absolute crap.

Google has said that .co is a new major extension.

And as they pwn the internet - i'm inclined to agree with them.

Get some good ones while they're hot (mind you millions of other people are thinking the same thing right now)
