I got this message in the search console:

CLS issue: more than 0.25 (mobile)

affected 804 urls.

Is it vital to solve this error?

If you want to pass the core web vitals check then yes it should be under 0.1 on all pages.

and does it affect site performance or google rankings?

It will affect Google rankings when the May core update is released.

We don't know how much weight it will have but I suggest you fix this to future proof your site, yes.

The Core Web Vitals G update will start from May this year, and yes: It's suppose to affect or boost your site rank, depending on your CWV score. Regarding your issue, you have enough time to solve it. Try to take a look here. After you fixed everything, go to wmt -> cwv -> report, and press Validate.

CLS affects user interaction.

So it will definitely have weightage in ranking.

Better change your theme to get score within limit.

Try NitroPack, it's worth it and it'll sort your technical-SEO issues.
I've been hearing about Nitro for a while but haven't tested it until I saw your comment. Mobile 93, Desktop 97. Wow! I tried everything using WP Rocket and mobile was stuck at 45. Unbelievable. Thank you! Good bye WP Rocket :)

did you get your hand on a nulled version of nitro or used the free option?

which optimization mode did you try?

Does nitropack work for custom code websites?

This CLS metric has been freaking me out now. No matter what I try with the theme it just does not want to do anything about it. Not sure how any plugins will fix this issue either as it's a CSS/HTML-related issue (am I correct with this?).

Not always CSS/HTML-related issue. Do you use Google ads?
