I got hit by the helpful content update despite having very good content. I noticed that many pages that are now outranking me have fewer or no affiliate links. However, I rely on the site for my income so removing most of the links would be counterproductive. I’m wondering if it would be possible to cloak sections of my pages from Google so they can’t see how many affiliate links I have, while still showing the informational content on those pages.
I know cloaking is often used to promote more controversial content but that’s not what I’m trying to do in this case. These are links to general products like headphones, clothing, etc. I also use Content Egg to display products in an attractive way.
Would this be possible, and would it work? What’s the easiest and cheapest way to accomplish it? I use WordPress, self-hosted, and have a little bit of technical knowledge but not a lot. I would prefer something like a plug-in if possible. I have never tried to do anything with cloaking before so I apologize for the newbie questions. Any information would be helpful!
