Client Just Dropped a Bombshell. . . a good one!

Pay hookers to scream out his domain name every time they turn a trick. Sorry useless post but had too :)

what he probly wanted was for you to take 10%, throw some links around and give him cash back for the difference (if you're running a loss on your business)... ;) JK... you do SEO, I'd spend it on quality links.

AdWords is a long term strategy if you do it properly. I mean, if you do it right and it returns a positive ROI then not only will he make more money but be willing to continue funding his AdWords traffic. I've managed AdWords accounts for several medium sized businesses, some in highly competitive markets such as mortgages and they were long term campaigns which did very well once everything was researched and tested.

Just make sure you know what you're doing or you can blow through that cash real fast.

Another option is to outsource some offshore workers for cheap who can launch new sites with original articles for link building and getting long tail keyword traffic from the search engines. 2-3k should get you two full time workers for 2 1/2 to 3 months who can crank out content and set up sites. Just make sure you have a step-by-step plan for them to execute and do the keyword research yourself.

There's some guides out there that break down the whole outsourcing deal. And once you find some good workers, you can use them to handle some of the work you do for your other clients which frees you up to take on more work or even have them do work for your own marketing efforts.

Ummmm...read the news lately??? Print is taking a huge dump because everyone is going online and the costs of paper have skyrocketed...I would know, I got my start in marketing at a very popular paper in the Orange County, California owned by a nationwide distributor. Now I do nothing but online marketing because it works way better.

Besides, you have no idea what kind of service or product his client is selling to recommend advertising in print. Some products or services would never work in print; not today, not yesterday.

No matter what you do...don't advertise in any kind of print unless you are handing out flyers or something.

It would be really helpful if you could tell us what the industry or product your client is selling. There's a big difference in how to advertise an ice cream cone as versed to a poodle salon. Know what I mean??

I know it is not working that well, but thats not the point. He said he has 10k he needs to spend and see some profit. He can still do that with newspapers. Obviously the ROI wont be there, but he will be able to do what is asked.

Problem with paper though is there is no way of tracking it unless the client attaches a coupon to the ad and sends the reader to a specific landing page to convert to a sale.

Managing the ROI on that would be difficult, the cost of creative to go into that and the actual purchasing of space we be so far out of budget . For example up here in toronto if you want to run a full page ad that runs on a Sunday, a one time deal, will cost you 250k and unless you have a plan in place to drive them back online... you will never even know how many people actually saw the ad or just skipped over it

You didn't mention whether this was already in place, but if not, I'd use the money to build a list and have the marketing emails outsourced.

Depending on his market, having a list could turn instantly into a steady long-term boost in income.

Outside of some markets (Forex, Make money at home, etc), people are damned responsive to "weekly special" emails.

With 10K. Shit, just outsource it all.

Start with some Phillipine assistants. Head over to Bestjobs.ph and post a job listing for data entry (will need to register with a phillipine IP address... just search for a phillipine proxy and use that while signing up). Will cost anywhere from $250-350/mo for a fulltime 40 hr/week assistant and these guys are incredibly loyal. Hire out to some americans for your article writing, have your philipines submit to all the big web 2.0 properties, have them generate RSS feeds from them, ping them, then top it off with some social bookmarkage. Do that longterm and you have yourself a happy client with all the #1 ranked sites he'll ever want.

link building over period of 6 months, mixed with social networks and buzz campaings!

Not sure why I hadn't though of this yet, but his site needs an affiliate program. . . . :-). That would be very good bang for his buck. Get other people to promote his site.
How difficult is it to set up your own affiliate program? For the amount of money the OP was offered, it sounds like this would be a very good idea. But wouldn't it also depend on what his client's product or service was? Not sure that offering an affiliate program is the way to go without first knowing what the client's product is.

Hire Opr*ah. Not kidding. But you may need more than 10k to get her endorsement, or offer her 10% share in your client's profit... at least. Your client will make you a VP. Med or non-med... she HAS what you want. :D Possible full ROI in days if not hours!
