Clickbank worth it for authors?

Hey all,

I have some specialized Forex knowledge that I wouldn't mind turning into an ebook. This is an idea I've been kicking around for a while. I want to write a high quality ebook and then get affiliates. I don't really want to do much advertising myself. I realize that Clickbank has upfront fees (especially if I don't want to host my own landing page), I'm OK with that. If I just throw up a new product will it get affiliates or will I have to generate sales myself first?

Will I have to create a bunch of upsales for it to be worth it?

EDIT: I've been poking around the forum...the new product listings are very helpful. I could definitely create article marketing materials for affiliates as well as ready-to-go banner ads.

I have often hear it said that affiliates (the big ones) won't really tpouch your product if you, yourself are not able to make any sales yourself. So it would seem that you will need to do some marketing yourself in order to get those sales.

I have a recently added product that I have purposefully left at a very low % for affiliates so that they leave it alone whilst I am split testing. that said though, still the usual 20 or so affiliates will put it on their 1001 product directories or whatever but they'll never do any business for you.

In relation to what the best set up is, you could look at the list of the 20 biggest (by gravity*) products out there and see what some of their characteristic are. You are looking for something(s) that stand out. Tip: one of them is a much higher than average % of those 20 have recurring commissions...

*As gravity is overrated / inaccurate depending on what you're using it for...

i guess its hard to find some good affiliate with thit product. there is plenty on the market ...

What would be the cost to start such an affiliate network? You need tech support, an affiliate system, etc. If you think you can afford that, and that the sales will offset the costs, then go for it! What's the worst that can happen?

If you put together a good product with a good landing page, you will find a number of people promoting your product. There are huge number of people trying to make it the Forex affiliate niche and some guys are always looking for new products to promote. I have previously run Forex sites where I have promoted Clickbank products, a good review and content and you can send some decent traffic. Literally thousands of affiliates were promoting some awful Clickbank FX and Binary products.

As others have said the majority of people promoting the product will not have a hope in hell of sending you any real sales. It wouldn't harm you launching your on Clickbank. I get a lot of people reaching out to me about promoting EA's, ebooks etc, though I'm currently not promoting such products. Reaching out to some good FX affiliates wouldn't be a bad move and their are some forums were affiliates come to discuss FX affiliation and you might find some good affiliates to promote your product their. Most will already have a Clickbank account.
