Just been wondering really. When you're looking to promote a product & analyzing the competition. Example there's 500 monthly searches for a product. But aren't the majority of those 500 searches going to be from people like us analyzing the product & not actually looking to purchase? Cheers! :o

Funny. I have been thinking the exact same thing for a long time. Will be interesting to hear peoples take on this.

I thought that too, but had some success with ClickBank in this way over the past couple of weeks. I imagine that a good number of the searches are from affiliate marketers like us, but I would think the majority are legit.

I chose a product with the highest gravity I could find practically on Click bank last month. Picked a domain name based on searches I saw in Google and in the first 2 weeks I sold 5 products.

I got delisted shortly after that lol, but this did prove that those numbers are not all clickbank users researching terms.

It depends on how generic the keyword is, if it's a product name, that will not be as lucrative. You have to target the genre, and buyer keywords. Like a get back with your ex product, whatever the exact name of the product is, that wont be what is searched unless yeah, someone is just more or less researching the product for whatever reason. With that product, you would want to target keywords like how to get your ex back, stuff like that. Buying products that help your love life type keywords. Its also not always a good idea to outrank the main site itself for the product name, they don't take kindly to that :).
