Clickbaiting on YouTube?

has anyone here had success with this? it seems like all the big channels do it nowadays.
some ridiculous title in caps + misleading thumbnail = views
i know the videos will get disliked but a lot of people end up watching anyways. plus, i have a theory that youtube promotes disliked videos because of 'controversy'

clickbait clickbait clickbait clickbait ......Every popular channel does that, so its a good way to grow your account

While this may get a lot of views will it actually lead to conversions and subscriptions? If I was click baited into a video I definitely wouldn't subscribe or convert. What do you expect to gain from using click bait videos?
