you know some site moderate your comments? so when you are getting backlinks you sometimes have to waste time actually reading the blog or whatever so you can post a relevant comment that wont get deleted?

well, you no longer have to do that

nobody wants to be a racist, so if you comment is a foreign language, they will feel like members of the KKK if they delete is. so just put something like this as your actual comment:

    您發送了同樣的消息到多個新聞組

you'll get your back link, the comment won't be deleted and you will make a chinese person laugh when he reads it (it says "you have just been spammed")

use babel fish to get the writing

why dont you simply scan the comments and write a comment just the same and use the "name" area as anchor text...put your keyword in the name area.

I don't think a moderator would accept such comment since it's in a foreign language. Besides, you will need to promote your keywords via anchor text, are you going to promote your keywords in chinese too ? lol

i might delete it too but it would depend if there was a relevant English translation in the post or not. No need to argue about it here just do a test with any of the commenting software and post your results here.

I delete any and all comments on my forums / blogs that are in a foreign language... On top of that before any comment goes live I strip out any links. Not to mention a comment in a foreign language is a totally dumb idea because if they can read your blogs language they would in theory be able to post in your language or use google translator so it's almost always an indication of spam quite contrary.

....Though generally I disable all commenting. :)

One one occasions I hacked my wordpress installation so it will throw any comment bot into an infinite loop. :)

    Basically works like this:

    1. bot/user fills in comment
    2. goes to the "post comment page"
    3. I've nulled the post page so no data is ever submitted and it just redirects to the page they came from. Therefore a comment bot would just keep going and going because it would never receive any feedback that the comment went through and it keeps getting redirected back to the page it came from.

    hahah :)

If I see something like that on my blog, I would not only delete the comment, but I will gladly block the ip as well.

Who cares about being racist or not, unless you are catering to chinese you would not keep such a comment on your blog.

Maybe you might get that to stick on an unmoderated blog

Trying to leave comments on sites which are moderated is generally a poor use of time and resources. Find sites where you don't have to try and sneak past anyone. 90% of the time you will fail to do so.

is there a way to tell if a blog is moderated short of the 'trial and error' method im doing right now?

Yes, there is. If you find a spam site which has been using comment spam to build its links, you can put it into http://www.backlinkwatch.com and see where its links have stuck. Spam generally tends to fail all manual moderation barriers. Successful spam comments are pretty much synonymous, on a domain, with a lack of moderation.

I use this method and moderation simply is not a problem for me - I almost never come across it.

Thanks Micallef, thats an interesting approach.

It seems i was approaching the problem from a different perspective. I'd find a list of .gov or .edu blogs then go through them one by one and try and post. What I thought would be useful was a way of checking if the blogs in those lists were moderated rather than simply seeing if my comment stuck or got caught by moderator waitlist.

If i understand your approach correct, you're instead looking for a list of sites that are using comment spam and drilling down into their links to find blogs they use to comment on.

This is the best way to go. Or reply to a previous comment like:

    @Jack - I totally agree, I don't think its right either

If a guy with the name Jack had posted a comment with an opinion before. Takes like 2 seconds, lets your comment stick and you don't have to read the blog post.
