Thanks for putting all that great information into the thread. It's hard to find good insight from knowledgeable sources. Almost everything on the web is some clown reiterating highlights from the Google blog and they don't understand the impact and technicalities which is what we need to rank high.

Well Said Grey Wolf. Nice article to clarify the difference between SERP and PR. It is very much clear from their name as well. One is Search engine result pages and other is Page rank.
PR has pretty less affect on the SERP but it can really affect your sales.

You can focus too much on PR, and still never rank well for many particular keywords, or you can focus on ranking for specific keywords in the SERP and the PR will just naturally follow. If the PR goes up, great!! If it doesn't so what, you've still ranked in the SERP which is what will get you the traffic.

I think you create some sensible points and therefore the overall purpose of your post is solid, but not fully correct.


Those extra fifty,000 links ar progressing to cause a fluctuation in trust rank (either up or down) which can have an immediate impact on domain authority.


Consequently, you will see alittle rise in SERP placement for keywords 1-5 as a result of backlinks designed exploitation keyword half-dozen as anchor text, however undue to the PR worth.

but I have this doubt, i seen sites with less number of backlinks to have high page rank and other sites with thousands of links have no or 0 PR... is this due to the low quality of backlinks got by No PR site or the domain authority advantage of the high PR site?

Well the original post in this thread was written in 2011.

It's probably still pretty accurate as far as clearing up some misunderstandings that a lot of newbies have, but there have been many updates in the last few years and so of course it should be expected that there are other important factors to consider which weren't discussed when the thread was started.

Excellent article, I think it's really helpful explaining the connection between the two. I have heard of a case before where someone got a site with virtually no content to receive a PR3, using just backlinking, and using clever anchor texts.

It took a while for me to understand what I have just read, so I read it again and found out that the PR of your own site doesn't matter in ranking on serps. But didn't Google said that "pages with higher PageRank are more likely to appear at the top of Google search results"? So does that mean even if your site has a high PageRank, not all your webpages will get the same PR?
