I'm not sure I totally agree with this. Because yahoo answers seam to get ranked top for everything, if it had nothing to do with the domain PR then most of them would not do that.
Keep in mind though that if your main site has a high pr that means it probably has some decent links going to it. While that alone wont rank your site, the incoming links will if you optimize your site properly while also making sure that you are moving the link juice around your site correctly. Always make sure though that the existing incoming links are decent and not spammy before choosing a high pr site to be your money site.
In order to improve SERP i must link to the inner page that my keyword is positioned in Google.
Example:
Keyword1 is placed on 5th place, the page is website.com/category/keyword1.html
Or is it enough to link the Keyword1 to the main website (website.com/) and it will still improve to the inner page?
Their is huge difference between Google PR and Google SERP.Google PR is the rank given by the Google according to its algorithm and the Google SERP is the indexing when a user search for the query according to its keyword.
I also agree that PR has value BUT this is not only the important, determining factor to getting ranked. Like others said, you need to consider the number of backlinks and the SEO efforts.
Finally I really understand the difference between the too. I always thought it was the PR of my site not the PR of the backlinks. Thanks for clearing it up
According to me PR is power of a website that is gained because of quality on site and off site SEO but SERP is completely related to the relevancy of the link created.
GreyWolf,The difference between PR and SERPs role in ranking has never been explained so well previously.Although both have their own relevance but PR of a website is never gonna Make it to help the rankings. Its just the reputation ones site gets. And the PR tells only the Home page PR which is totally different from the internal pages PR.All are different according to the backlinks the page is getting.
You make some good points and the overall purpose of your post is solid, however not completely accurate. All in all a very good explanation - hopefully at least a few people will be brought back down to earth as a result of this.
