Hi,
Don't know wether i can't search or if it's lacking information about the local searches and the "snack pack" results. I am talking about the 3 google my business pages that appears when you do a local search. How can you optimize a google page for a specific keywords so it appear on the top3 liatings? I heard about citations is this whats hot these days? Does link building still work to a GMB page in order to increase in ranking?

Articles, Links, Blogs, Citations and your on-page SEO all define your keywords in the GMB snack pack.

Thanks for your reply Nate, but will it be links pointing to the GMB page and how about the articles how would they be structured? With a citation or link?

I build links to the landing page and the GMB page and sometimes including citations, articles are typically linking to the landing page a citation is merely a mention of the business name address and phone number some say website as well but I typically include that with all content (articles, blogs etc)

Building a link to the GMB page would work easiest with the articles and would be the best move while citations aren't always necessary they definitely serve as useful means to promote your business and content.

Local sites backlinks. Posts on local sites. Ask to put you in the links section etc.

The BBB is the best backlink money can buy. A plumber I met said it paid for itself in the 1st week. All government backlinks are gold, for example if your State makes your dba information available online. For local SEO, what ranks highest are those links that indicates a business's "legitimacy".

Think about it. Google is trying to deliver real-time information to real people at the moment they need something, for example a locksmith. Or an electrician. The first rule of winning (for Google) is to NOT LOSE. Meaning that, Google is concerned first and foremost with NOT giving their customer the Name, Address and Phone Number of a business that does not even exist. So anything that indicates permanency (like a government record, etc...) is going to give a business a significant boost over those that never filed a dba, or whatever other government documents you might be thinking about. Example articles of incorporation, or LLC filing. In Texas, the State makes this information public, and they have a spot there in the record for the URL of the business's website, as well as the Name, Address and Phone Number (NAP) and other factors. When Google sees one or more government records matching with a BBB record, matching Facebook, matching Twitter, matching Pinterest, matching the data on the website, matching a Google Local Listing (whatever it's called now), matching X, matching Y, matching Z, etc... (get the idea yet), that business is REAL and is going to rank higher than business that do not have the depth and breadth of a consistent NAP.

It's all relative within the niche. Plumbers aren't competing with Dentists. If you are the only Dentist with a public LLC and a BBB listing in town, you are going to rank higher than everyone else, no matter how much money the competition squanders on spam backlinks to fake twitter accounts. It's all relative, but some factors are more important than others. All other things being equal, maybe a few thousand spam backlinks might make the difference between placing #5 instead of #6, but if your business is the only one in your niche that has a public LLC document on file at the .gov website, you're #1 no matter how many spam blackhat backlinks everyone else spends money on.

Here's a trick that works. Find a DISTRICT in the city your client is serving that is NOT saturated. Position your client for that district.

What anchor do you use when linking to your GMB page? do you exact match keyword ?

My lead gen sites are #1 in the snackpacks in many large metros for competitive niches without any state or BBB links. Theyre even using fake addresses.

Do you want to share your tricks to succed in local seo ad get rankef in the pack?

For local seo, consistency is key. Get your NAP (Name address phone number) exactly as google sees it. Get it on your footer with an embedded map from google. Make sure the NAP is consistent across all citations. Make sure you add the NAP and geotags to your photos onsite and off. Make sure you get niche relevant and local relevant citations and directories. Make sure your IFTTT is setup correctly.

This ^^^ but if you're going whitehat, grab some local links (from things like sponsoring local events etc). If you don't want to do that, and don't mind a bit of mild social engineering, help out a few local businesses (just scrape G results for local non-competing but related businesses that have 404 errors, broken links - messed up WP themes... and fix them in exchange for a link back to your site/client. Quite often smaller business owners struggle with even the basics, so a little help can gain you a lot of goodwill (and some local links).

Citations & reviews though, for map results, I find is usually enough in all but really tough niches. Still pretty easy to do local in tough niches tbh... just need to get a bit more creative.
