thats actually quite genius!

not sure how well it'd work, but it definatly has some potential!

hi guys,

just letting you know that this wont work in the UK as i work as a credit analyst for a major credit card issuer and we have ways of finding out your previous and linked names/aliases via the people you have been linked to before.

The only way you could get around it is if you dont apply for anymore credit, or your application lands on the screen of a rookie.

I understand the thinking behind it though.

cheers

I just changed my name to Fuck Ingcunt :D

Loveishell,

I'm thinking of that happening in Scotland, and then I'm picturing the same situation in the USA. The feds here foam at the mouth over catching people who strive to be against them. They go completely out of their way, create new divisions in the law enforcement agency, give it a $100 billion budget to quell the "evildoers". It's actually a pretty solid idea, dependent on how much information they already have on you(which is always a lot more than you think).

What a cool site! Well what better way to get started here then to let you know that this is completely true, I did it and in the uk. Now my name change reason was not to clear any debts that was a bonus and only realised afterwards. Had the choice hmmm own up to 4k debt or leave it and start afresh. Can you guess which option I chose?

One of my debts was with argos and I even had the cheek to apply for new credit in my new name, this was declined but only due to not having any credit history! Did this about 8 years ago and have not heard a peep from anyone since.

Yes the companies probably know who your mother is with the aliases info etc but does your brother/sister/cousin get harrased over your debt? No.

Anyway just giving my 2 cents, not looking for moral lectures.

it actually doesn't work in the us. my husband changed his name but got the same driver license and social security numbers with the new name

marry someone from another country ie if your a brit come to the US and marry an american chic you will eventually get a new SS and Drivers etc and be pretty much untraceable from the UK

Alternatively go back in time make sure your parents are from two different countries, again UK and US works, grow up in one of the countries, rack up a load of debt or better still take a load of loans out and piss off to the other country and resume your new residence with new ID...

its much better to go from UK to US since the weather is much nicer and if you do decide to do the loans thing.... well the pound is stronger than the dollar! :)

you could make a name change and get a new citizenship... then when fagrs comes a knocking, you change your tone of voice and say

"NO, it wrong person you had!@"

There are two problems with this. At least in the US. Your credit is tied to your social not just your name. The credit bureaus and credit companies themselves also have allot of tools at their disposal to link people together. I can tell you that the bureaus themselves will list aliases at the top of bureaus to help credit companies out. These aliases are found from cross referencing multiple data together.

The second problem is clear debt is the wrong word to use. The debt does not go away because you do not answer the phone, and say yes it's me. The debt will always remain until paid in most cases.

PS: There is also a statute of limitation argument that is usually used as a get out of debt free argument. This is also false. If you were to let's say disappear. Change your name. Make sure that your family, friends, old friends, old relationships, co workers, boss, old boss, neighbors, old neighbors, old roommates, etc all not know where you went, or cover for you, and are never tracked down to be served, and do not need to use your credit for a home purchase, rental history, car loan, cell phone, credit card, refinance of any debt, etc then in most US states the statute of limitations will usually hit after about 3-4 years. After this time you cannot be sued for the debt owed, but the debt can be sold to another company or still collected by the originating company. They can still call you, and yes it will still be on your credit as a debt owed.

I am giving you this info because I think there is nothing worse than an attorney, or so called credit counselor scamming people out of money telling them that they can get them out of debt with these techniques when they are not helping at all. The best advice I can give is do not get into debt. If you do stand up, and take responsibility for it. Work with the people you owe, and educate yourself even before believing everything is attorney tells you. Remember that they are there to make money also.

The truth of the matter is... no matter how many institutions they set up to monitor our 'creditability', the funnest game anyones ever going to play is getting around their fagsystem. and thats going to be hard to take away, I wish them luck on that :P

Well as I said it worked for me in the United Kingdom, I dunno about the US.

Yeah, this particular method won't work at all in the US. As CapMorgan said, your identity is tied to your social security number. And there's no quick way to get a new one (that I know of).
There are statute of limitations for some types of debt. The type and specifics vary from state to state. But a lot of these old "Zombie debts" will disappear after a while.

Going the illegal route you can always assume your dead relatives identity. My sister's ex-boyfriend did that, living as his brother, for 20 years before anyone found out. His mom's estate tracked him down and they were curious why they could find the dead son but not the living.
