Does stealing copyrighted data without authors' consent and building a commercial software out of it count as ethical?

Hard to say what the most "ethical" AI is exactly. It's probably the most brand-safe though, if that makes sense.
Claude has a more explicit constitution outlining its intended values, plus Anthropic has a public Responsible Scaling Policy and publishes risk reports, so there's that. Not entirely flawless, of course, as we are all well aware.
It's certainly up there, for what that's worth.
