So whats the deal with the above site. Is it still a valuable tool to use. Most of the posts I see date back to 08 or 09. Do people still use this resource successfully? Or is it just so saturated and difficult to get past the phone verification issue.

Any advice in this realm would be much appreciated and why can't I type the actual website?

The problem with CL is that they are EXTREMELY litigious (there are several nasty examples - Google it!) and that's also the reason why BHW have chosen to stay away from discussions revolving around them.

I wouldn't put anything past their lawyers, but if you're legitimately posting ads then you shouldn't have anything to worry about
