I had seen a thread where someone was able to do this by contacting Instagram, but the date on the thread was before Facebook acquired IG.

The username I want is the exact name of one of my brands. I have established common law trademark through use in commerce but do not have a registered trademark.

The profile in question has only 2 posts, which were posted 4-5 years ago. Following 0 and it has 7 followers (mostly inactive spam accounts). They have no bio or profile pic and they do not respond to messages or comments.

My accounts name is the same but with the word "apparel" at the end.
I feel like dropping the word "apparel" would be very beneficial to me as there is more to the brand than just clothing.

I tried to contact Instagram but had no luck, it seems as though they saw my trademark claim and only read far enough into it to see that I had not registered the trademark then immediately denied it.

Has anyone had any success in this or am just wasting my time?
Any way to get the account removed and free up the name?

I've tried contacting them as the name of my brand is not in use but also not available, most useless attempt at contacting a company ever. They're awful about this.

What I read is that you have to file potential trademark violations or something of the sort and get them to legally "shut it down" - don't know if true or not though.

E-mail them with proof of you having a business with that exact name. Business registation proofs etc.

They don't have contact info listed. I filled out the trademark infringement claim form and the email reply I got was
"Instagram usernames are assigned on a first–come, first-served basis. We require a national or community trademark registration in order to consider requests for username transfers. "
