Hi, new to forum, so I hope I can help properly.
There are not any direct references to either style in the Guidelines, nor have there been from AC to CP's in the forum. But, CP's have been declined with the reason "source not properly APA formatted".
Here is a post in the forum, from a reply to a CP from AC about formatting their articles and confusions with how to cite...etc
"Matt, If you consider your writing to be journalism, you need to follow the AP style guide. For academic works, you should probably use MLA. You can find links to a variety of style guides on http://owl.english.purdue.edu as well as plenty of advice on writing."
So, basically yes go for it. Though it's not specified in guidelines, I guess they feel as a 'writer' you should know by default to do it in these styles/formats.
I hope I helped you...I did re-look at AC to make sure there were not any new updates in their guidelines, faqs...etc ,since I haven't been on for awhile, but saw nothing. (then again its almost 8 am and I haven't slept yet, I may have missed it) Don't forget Account-Help-Guidelines for more info.
And for a one stop on all formats (MLA, PA, APA, Chicago manual of style...) try Bibme.com. They pretty much do all the work for you and help you refresh-or learn a few new tricks.
Have a good one'
