If a business gets a new website and the old website (which is a different business) is no longer being used, but both use the same phone number, should the new business create new citations or keep using the old ones?

Essentially they are two differnt entities.

New site, same phone number? Tricky! :p For two distinct businesses, create fresh citations for the new entity to avoid confusion and keep Google happy. Old citations could mess with NAP consistency. You switching domains or fully rebranding? :D

switching domains to rebrand. btw its for local seo

Are those businesses in the same niche? If so, it can be useful, if not, it would be weird to see a hairdresser receiving citations and mentions treating it as a plumber service

Update the existing listings, log in, change the business name and URL to the new brand, and keep the same phone number. This keeps the citation history, avoids duplicates, and points all authority to your new site.

You should create new citations for the new business because it is a different entity from the old one, even though they share the same phone number. This will help avoid any confusion and ensure that the correct information is presented to customers.

If they are different businesses, its best to make new citations for the new site. Using the same phone number can confuse Google, so keep each business info seperate and clear to avoid any issues with rankings.

Make sure the NAP (name, address, phone number) details match consistently for the new business. You can update or remove the old citations if they no longer apply to the current business to maintain clean and accurate online information.

dont know if i can find the old citations. do you think adding the new url on the old socials would help?

I recommend creating a new citation for the new business but make sure to update any existing citations with the new website details. Since the phone number is the same, it can help maintain consistency
