I noticed today that Chrome uses 20% of CPU once I open certain pages. This happens for facebook, amazon, etc. Even happens while accessing chrome://settings/

Doesn't happen for bhw, wikipedia, etc...

Even after I close the tab it keeps using 20% of CPU.

I already removed all extensions with no effect.

I already ran Avira antivirus and malwarebytes, nothing detected.

I don't want to reinstall chrome but that's probably what I need to do.

Restart your computer, this will free up memory too!

I would probably reinstall and see what it's like afterward.

Maybe also clear your cookies, if you have any intense tracking cookies etc.

I personally use Brave Browser which is built on Chromium and works great, it's built for gaming so uses low CPU.

You can try something like ccleaner too.Have you tested firefox or opera? Both are just as fast and maybe you'll have great results with those browsers.

might be bad people got your browser control and mining something.
Uninstall chrome browser

scan with malwarebites or something like this

It's weird because it only happens with some websites. As soon as I enter a specific website (facebook, amazon, chrome own settings page, dnoticias.pt (local news website) ) it goes to 20% and doesn't stop until I close chrome.

Don't recommend other browsers, I'm happy with chrome, thanks :)

google playstore, google search, Paypal and wordpress.com is ok.

But while visiting fiverr, youtube or ebay it goes to 20% CPU.

You get the idea.

That's weird. Could be some sort of malware like bdman mentioned. Back up data and reformat?

Problem solved, I reinstalled chrome. Thanks :)

This my PC right now.

I don´t have 39 tabs opened in Chrome (14 actually) so, I am aware Chrome creates a bunch of processes but, normally, my memory usage is between 60% and 80%.

Is this normal? (My PC has 8gb of RAM)

Chrome is a beast when it comes to CPU and RAM usage, i think its a good idea to not have it at all, there are good alternatives more better than Chrome, and if you're paranoid like me about privacy i recommend to uninstall Chrome from your system, its just a spying tool knows every website you visit and keeps logging your browsing activities to target you with specific ads, im using OPERA and its going very well, less RAM and CPU usage, and it has an ad blocker built-in

Switch to Opera.

I have upgraded my laptop to 16GB RAM and switched to Opera and it's running amazing now.

I've always used Firefox, I feel like it's much better UX and resource friendly.
