Does anyone else remember sites like TOTSE and Pigdog? Any other people who fondly remember that dog eared hard copy of the Anarchists cookbook that was passed round school and misses that comforting sound of a dial up modem? Or am I just an old fart? (I hope not!)

I found myself wondering how many of the old files from the god old days before the internet were still doing the rounds... Turns out none of them!

Now admitadly we're alot less free than we were back in those halcyon days... in the UK we've seen people arrested as terrorists for downloading pdf's that wouldn't have even raised an eyebrow in the 90's, and instead of the beauty of the private web we've got this monopolised abomination that passes for a free web.... But what the hell happened?!?!?!?!

I'm begining to think it may be time to return to those days personally. Back in the day running a bulletinboard was an expensive business, storage, bandwidth, electricity, none of it was cheap! Back then a 100mb hard drive was considered HUGE and a 56k modem was the height of speed, AND you were paying by the minute for your phone calls!

I suppose what I'm trying to say in this incoherant post work rant is that.... if we could have a 'private internet' back then with all those disadvantages.... why the HELL don't we have it now?
(Or perhaps BBS's still exist, hidden from the eyes of lamers like myself, spreading wares and files across the world!)
