Hi Friends,

I was shopping hosting (seems like everything is much cheaper----probably due to NEWER server technology----and older servers available).

I was told to LOOKOUT because many of them have bad uptime.

QUESTION: Is there anyway to check the uptime of some of these servers that are offering $2mth hosting?

Thanks.

You can ask the hosting provider to show the up-time records if they published any. However. We can't blindly believe in that statistics. Since, some time hosting provider use Ping test or any other methods and that test record the server up even if the server is down. Hence the best way of finding the uptime record is to find the customer reviews in different web hosting forums.

Get your short list of providers and then use something like monitor.us to check their uptime for a few weeks. Only downside is if the host is any good they will host their main site with someone else so it may not work.

Anyone decent should have stats they are happy to show you though.

Unfortunately you are going to have a hard time getting any real data until you setup your own hosting account with them and begin monitoring with something like Pingdom. If you are concerned uptime will be an issue for the host(s) you are considering I would suggest getting 1 month of service with each and trying them out. Worst case you spend a few dollars to help avoid summer/kiddie hosts.

Agreed, monitoring the hosts website will likely give you very little useful information as it should be hosted on its own infrastructure apart from where your account would end up.

Good luck!
