Is putting the content into google search and seeing if the page comes up, a good way to see if content is already indexed? I found a good amount of content that could help my site get some more long tail searches, but worried if I will get duplicate content penalty.

I Generally Copy a Sentence from a article, put it in Quotes and Search. Do this Couple of times for each article and see. I do it while pulling content from Expired domains.

Google Limits Queries to 32 Words. Choose short Sentences.

Choose the best sentence from the article to the quote and google searches the fine one.
