What's the best way of checking comp manually ? Any good sites etc to check PR along with other stats ?

install seoquake into your browser and it will check the competition's backlinks to page, backlinks to domain, PR, # of indexed pages, age of site and a few other things. it does it automaticall each time you search.

I think you should go for a tool rather than using a online tool.
Online tools are usually not enough efficient to give you accurate analysis report.

Moreover, they required lot of human intervention.

I use 'Keyword Country' for analysing my SEO and PPC competition... You can try with it!

I just tried SEO Quake and actually really like it it's helpful just to know the PR of the site etc... Gives you an idea anyway.

In Google Chrome I use the "ChromeSEO" plugin and find it works great.

Gives you:

PR
Backlink #'s (Google, Yahoo, Majestic)
Alexa Ranking
Social Stats (Likes, +1's, etc)
Site Age
Who-is info
Traffic estimates
Page's Indexed

A whole slew of stats.

I use it daily

I would always recommend 'SearchStatus' for knowing the various stats of a website.

use any backlink checker to check on your competition
