I was looking through mine today and saw I would of owed a couple hundred dollars for services I don't use or for trials I did maybe 6 months ago that I forgot about. I'm sure a lot of people forget about these thus is why businesses do it.

Yes. Same with renting for high PR networks. 90% of networks are deindexed now, so if you signed up last year some time do the following...

Email them and say you want proof that your links are up or you're cancelling. If they say no, fuck them. I had one guy give me a list of 5 sites, two weeks later 4 of 5 were deindexed, and I'd still be paying right now if I didn't know.

Remember, most these people will do anything to make a buck and have no problem fucking you over.
