Hey BHW, I am starting up my very first MNS website and I am having a little trouble doing Keyword research. I have been looking through all these guides and read WSO's on how to find the perfect keyword but for some reason Google Adwords tool is not working for me. So I downloaded the trial version of Market Samurai and have been playing around with it(I have no idea what I'm doing).

But I found this keyword that I think is a good first start kind of thing but the number of backlinks on these sites seem a little high, "http://i.imgur.com/Oovnq.jpg".

Is this an ok keyword to go with based on these first 10 sites?

Looks easy for you to start off with.

Make sure you get your on-page SEO right and then throw some manual backlinks daily by starting small and then building more daily.

Start by commenting on high page rank related to your niche (keyword) on let's say 10 blogs per day for the first 2 weeks and then start gradually adding more per day. You'll soon see some steady rnakings for your first MNS.

Look and see if there are any EMDs available. If they are, are they registered and are they ranking? Judging by the backlinks it looks like only inner pages and no domains are ranking for that KW which is good news. The domain age of some of those sites is off-putting to me though.

I'd say if the EMDs are taken, they are well optimized, with OK backlink profiles then it's probably a sign it's not a good niche to try to rank in.

If these top 10 sites are sites like dailystrength, xanga, or ehow then I'd try to rank it. If they are subpages on an authority niche site I may or may not depending.

It looks doable, but it could be iffy if other factors are considered. The # of backlinks isn't so much an issue look at the link profiles of these top 10 sites. What kind of backlinks are they? Do they have tons of guest posts? That could mean they'll be tough to compete with. Or is it a bunch of crappy whois indexer links?

Can you define what an EMD is? The ones with the ridonk amount of backlinks 3rd and last are Vimeo and Amazon, the 8th one is Livestrong. If I PM'd you my KW would you have more success in helping me out?

Thanks for the help, I think I will look up some guides on how to properly backlink and start off by hand for a couple of weeks. Do you think within 2 months I can have front page if I do steady backlinking everyday? Also what do you think of buying one of the backlink services here?

EMD = Exact match domain as in... yourkeyword.com

don't pm anyone your keyword. Always keep it to yourself. Have a read around the forum for similar threads.

Check out some adsense journeys in the forum. There's quite a few of them about.

I do have an EMD, I will keep it to myself it looks like then :) I have been reading these threads for a few days now and was inspired enough to start my own MNS :) I had a cheap domain where I build a rough draft of my website and it looks really good right now. Now I just need to transer the site over to a new domain and replace the "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" with real content :)

Great stuff, just remember don't get put down if you have problems. SEO is a trial and error game, that's changing everyday. You'll quickly learn the ropes pretty soon.

Google Keyword Tool is so misused. Use market samurai or some other service(you can purchase gig on fiverr) someone to do the research for you if you don't have time.

There is the WSO I used, no need to download just view it. Whenever I put in restrictions such as CPC and Local Searches it wouldn't register them for some reason. Tried it at a friends house so it's not just my computer. I am in the US also if that helps...

If you're comfortable with that, I'll give you my honest opinion. I've got too much going on to bother trying to capitalize on anyone else's niche. If not, I think you're good to go hope you rank that sucker.
 
i would suggest you to look for keyword with less competition than this one because its your first project
