Check for available domains easily!

MOD:I thought that this is the right section to post because the post is related to domain registration. If you don't like it then you can move it to the right place =)

Hi friends!


I hope this might prove useful for some of you.
This is a SIMPLE & BASIC method of checking whether a domain name is free for registration or is already registered! this will save you from fraudulent domain selling sites who register your good EMDs when you check them on their website for availability.


Go to command prompt and enter ping www[dot]xyz[dot]com
If it receive packets then the domain is registered as in the below image.



If it shows something like "Ping request could not find host ......Please check the name and try again." , then the domain is not registered.

It's the fastest and easiest method for me to check for domain names related to my niche which are available for registration. I know that most of you know this but trust me many of our friends don't, and this is for them

Yes and no. It works, if there's a site configured, up and running. Many times there's no site to a domain that's otherwise registered, but not currently in use - or it's just unreachable for the moment.

well, the DNS is always set for a domain that is registered so I think it works in most of the cases except when the domain is expired or something!

No, it doesn't. I have couple sites that are currently down for maintenance from hosting company's side, and can't ping them - thus ping can't find any host, and according to your method, that would mean the domains are not registered. So while this could work for majority of cases, it's too unreliable to be used really - and it's only faster (compared to searching for domain on e.g., Namecheap) if you have terminal already open, which is already unfair advantage in comparison.

yeah, if the hosting is down then ping won't work.And it's faster for me than going on any site and search for domains

It works, but due to how unreliable this method actually is, the little speed you might gain is not worth it. IMO.

Why not simply go to any domain registrar and check for all extensions. Your method is going to work for 90% of the cases only.

well, i listed this method because i found many people complaining that many registrars register good domains for themselves , and sell them later at a high price!

Like miren6 said just go namecheap or something and enter domain, just as easy ;p
