Cheating Google Maps

Hi all. One of our competitors have pulled an interesting move.
They have effectively twisted google maps for "paintball melbourne" to only show their result.
It is not even their field location. Just an office they use for storage mainly.
We used to get a result that showed all the paintball places in or around the greater Melbourne area

So what have they done? We have lost all placement on google maps because the search term seems to have lost the geo component.
He is claiming it as an seo win after the change so at least he thinks that it is something he did. lol

I would be surprised if this wasn't deliberate. Our industry is pretty aggressive online.
The guy who is claiming to have done this has been doing their seo for a while and is claiming credit for this so pretty sure he has done something to swing this.
My guess is that he has registered a business by the full geo search term.
Would this have to be the case?

Try doing the same if you feel it was deliberate and see if you can get something similar.

Honestly I would prefer to be competing on a level playing field with the map showing. On that current display we loose all the advantage we have of having the most positive reviews (genuine) in the industry.
To me it seems like a massive manipulation of the process.
