Cheapest way to start your LLC

Spent all day figuring this stuff out to file for an LLC. Information overload here for sure.

I went with Incforfree (referenced by another BHW member above). Seemed like the best deal out of all of these cookie cutter sites. My total came to $188 w/ tax ID and I believe I will be billed $99 for the annual fee in 6 months time. Maybe I'll check back when everything comes in to report on how everything turned out.

If your confused at all by filing for an LLC just go with a web service like Legalzoom or a trusted alternative. It may be a little more expensive but will save you extra time for sure.- Just how I feel after "playing attorney" for a few hours today.

Just for Clarity...

If you use a service such as Legalzoom, you are paying both their fee... as well as any filing fees required to make your LLC official... correct?

In New York, the filing fee is $250 (thats including Articles of Organization, and Certificate of Publication), plus we need an affidavit from 2 newspapers, also a fee...
I am assuming I will end up paying $300 to start up an LLC if I handled everything myself.

Would it be cheaper to go to a third party establishment like Legalzoom or Amerilawyer?

Use Amerilawyer and pay the $90 add on fee for them to be on retainer to answer any questions or help with any problems you may have for the next 13 months! Where else can you get an attorney for $90 even for 1 phone call? You can't. If you're brand new at doing this, anything can happen that you are not ready for and you will need advice from someone who knows. For less than .03 cents a day you can call them with any questions, concerns, problems you may have.

I created my LLC and had an electronic copy in literally 10 minutes - for the cost of the $100 state filing fee (and I used my own name and address as the Registered Agent). Since I did that during the weekend, I had to wait until Monday to create my EIN - but that too took about 10 minutes and was 100% free.

My thanks to xphase for the info - as I said, still very much current.

Thanks for the bump salt. I was looking into this last couple of days and now this looks like the solution!
 
I have created an S-Corp and LLC in my home state by going to the Secretary of State website and following the directions, and naming myself as the registered agent. I recently created an LLC out of state utilizing the same process, only I had to locate a registered agent because I am out of state.

There are also companies that will handle the formation at minimal cost. The process is quite simplistic.
 
Yeah I'd just do it through your state website. I did it and it was a breeze.
 
Legalzoom or Amerilaywer.. Lets make a vote.

I need to know I'm making an LLC in Nevada this week.. I gotta know where I should go
 
It is true that a Nevada Corp or LLC can be started easily. But some if not most registered agents over charge. That's why I started my business Nevada Discount Registered Agent.

Just started my LLC today cost me like $365 at legalzoom was gonna go with Amerilawyer but saw all the bad reviews.
 
If there are any lawyers or accountants here... why LLC over s-corp? I understand that as an individual I can make/save more money as as an s-corp.
 
The first post is dated 2011... is that info still relevant and working?
