How are you creating the 2nd set of links ?
I've tried using the tools mentioned in the OP with no success & manually doing that will take up a lot of time...

Will it be fine if the entire 2nd set of links are from goo.gl and bit.ly ?

Edit : Tried using a bulk goo.gl link shortner with a bit.ly and it gave an error...
Any workaround?

From the testing that I've carried out, only bit.ly, Ow.ly and Cutt.us allow you to shorten an already shortened URL. Google, Trim etc don't allow you to carry this function to carry out.
You could in theory shorten a google url in google url shortener, though.
One thing I'd add in is that it would look odd if all the shortened URLs are coming from the same IP address. I don't have a VPN, but have the developer version of Opera which has a built in VPN for various different countries. When making these URLs, be sure to mix it up IP wise.
 
OK. Great information and I've read all the back and forth. I have already learned a ton on this thread. Thanks so much for that guys (and gals) and most specifically @lightningblitz

Here are my questions:
1) Is this used as part of the lower legs of a PBN? I mean, you mention putting together an old (or new) 2.0 site. If you do this many times over, you have essentially created a Private Blog Network. Haven't you?
2) When you register Web 2.0 sites, do you vary your IP, your email login, etc.? Do you use Google Chrome or another browser? I have heard that Google has a way of finding Private Blog Networks if you use the same IP address, email, etc. If so, what do you recommend for these types of services?
3) Same question applies if you buy aged Web 2.0 sites. Do you vary your IP or your login email?
4) I have seen where you can buy aged Web 2.0 sites on SourceMarket. Don't these Web 2.0 site URL's have to be somewhat related to your niche? I mean, if you're trying to rank for "Dentist in San Diego," but your PBN consists of exoticbirdflu.com, medicaservice.net, and cdyccc.com, does that do you any good?
5) Several times, I see mentioned, Churn and Burn. Would you recommend this method for establishing and keeping an SEO presence? Let's say, once again, "Dentists in San Diego," for example. If not, which tutorial do you recommend for that type of goal?

Okay a little update for everyone.
For last few days I was setting my Web 2.0 on Weebly and following this awesome guide from lightningblitz.
My strategy is simple. Spam the shit of Web 2.0 and give it some 'authority' that will pass juice to my Money Site. I target low competition keyword so I hope I will see movements, currently I am stuck at 10th place.

But back to the main point. With the shorteners it is indeed pain in the a** because I had to manually create 420 shortened links. It took me about 3 hours but I hope it will pay off. Few of the shortener webs mentioned here no longer let you shorten a shortened link, however, with some research I was able to find several websites, which allow this.

Few of them let you shorten a link only once, on the otherhand websites like Owly, Cutt.us, Infodetil, Llinks let you shorten as many urls as you want.
Because of this I had to adjust my strategy. For Tier 1 shortened urls I used the shorteners with better authority like Google, Bitly, TinyUrl, TinyCC, etc. And for Tier 2, I have used the following urls and mixed it well. Most of them still come from Ow.ly and Cutt.us but for better diversity I used all of the mentioned above.

For the last step, which means SPAM THEM AS F***, I bought today a gig from fiverr. Remember to use it at your own, I am not any how affiliated with fiverr and I found this offer interesting, but so far I can't give any feedback. For this case, I will update the thread in about 2 weeks with the outcome.

Short story long, It took me about 5 hours to set up a Web 2.0 and create 420 shortened Urls. As I lack a GSA software, I had to buy a blast from fiverr for 5 Usd.
So I invested 5 hours and 5 USD. Lets see the outcome :)

Okay guys, here I am! It's been over a month now since I began testing this strategy.

You were curious about the results so here they are.

I am not 100% sure if this method helped me increase my rankings in Google, however, below you can see a picture from Semrush. All of the KWs are related to the main keyword I was targeting.

As you can see, the results speak for themselves:

One more thing to mention and bust few myths: As a WEB 2.0 property I used Weebly.com.
There are some true rumors that Weebly doesn't get indexed in Google if you don't subscribe. That's true but you can help your weebly site get indexed by submiting link to Google Crawlers via Google's Webmaster Tools. I can assure you that all (my pages and newly published articles) are indexed in Google and all Weebly's links are do follow.

From my own experience, I think that one test is not enough to prove if the method works. But results seem promising. What's more, I haven't been building any links other than this 301 shorteners for the past month.

Long story short even though these keywords are still fluctuating, their rankings got significantly improved.

I think it's time to either scale up this method or use some quality PBN links.

I am also testing another ranking method - pumping Web 2.0s with cheap PBN links (250 links for 15 bucks). If you wish I will let you know with the outcome.

I hope guys that my input will help you with your future rankings.

First off, I want to start by saying that YOU are the reason why I decided to actually join the forum. I've been lurking for almost 9 months, reading, reading, reading and more reading. Never having much to say, just wanting to learn my way around. Maybe connect with a few souls on here from a far.

This post was more than helpful, it was motivating. I believe in asking questions, but I also believe in slicing through the information more than a few times before I ask. I've been trying to make money online through IM for a while now. I've made cash through other outlets, like content creation, blog development, and web development etc. But I've NEVER MADE IT THROUGH IM, and that is something that I want to do. I feel like if I'm creating properties for other people, why not do it for my self and make more than just pennies. Long term, sustainability is what I need in my life.

I think i put the cart before the horse and tried breaking down methods that were more advanced, and that is probably where my frustrations began. Giving up isn't really an option, I will do until I get results.

So thank you for this post. I was so motivated by this post, that I started putting it into action. I had one question to ask. You were definitely a gentle giant, and that is what all newbies need.
I've never been the type to enjoy being spoonfed, but you did it without being evasive. I like to have room to re-configure as I see fit and you allowed that.

Question:
I know a little about tier link building (not as much as I would like) and most of what I've read is that you don't really need tier 3 links. But I noticed you said to build tier 3 links but blast the tier 2 links with spam.

Can you explain why you do this? I assumed that the tier 3 links would be the ones getting blasted, and if they aren't then what is the purpose of having them? I want to get a better understanding before I begin creating 301s.

How many spam links are we talking about?

How fast did you dripfeed those spam or did you blast index 40% at one go?


Just trying to get a feel of whether is it the method or is it the speed of spam indexing.
 
For those that are still curious about this and if it works; it does. However, it is not a quick method as it once used to be.
Making the 301s by hand is tedious, and getting the software is an outlay, and then you need to factor in whether or not you're going to want to use private proxies. I have went down the private proxy route (public proxies get flagged way too quickly), and I've actually set up a Fiverr gig to let people try this method out before spending money on the software to build the 301s, and spending money on proxies as well. For those that are interested, the seller I use on Fiverr for the GSA blast has a gig that gives you 60k links so if you had to take on both gigs to help rank your site, it would be $15 which is a small investment.

From my own findings, I targeted a highly competitive keyword and wrote an article about it on HubPages (please don't ask for the kw or the article url as I don't want it getting flagged) and included Amazon associates links in it. Due to the nature of that article, people not only bought the items I was talking about in the article, but they also bought the related items since they go hand in hand with each other.

The article after being up for 5 weeks has jumped from no where to position 33 in the serps and it has a PA of 47 and a DA of 88 as well as a Moz Rank of 4. It should be noted though that all of the tier 1 301s haven't been indexed yet so I fully anticipate that once they have been, it'll shoot up even more. I also feel that with adding social signals to it, it'll help boost the ranking.

I have also tried this method with YouTube, namely in targeting local businesses and suffice to say that the video rocketed right onto page 1 of the serps for its keywords. Again, this was around a month for it to happen, but when it does, it hits the serps hard. I hope those out there that don't have a huge budget look into using this method for ranking parasites for things such as local campaigns for businesses since it's a win win on both sides, especially when it's such a cheap method if you outsource the work. As an example, I outsourced the GSA blast which cost me $5, but I charged a client $150 for ranking their video on page 1 of Google. Granted, there were costs involved in me buying the 301 software and proxies, as well as the time taken for me to manually create the tier 1 301s. However, it is difficult to quantify the cost in this sale of the 301 software and proxies since I'm using them for other projects too. It can be one of those cases that if you outsource this method, you can make a tidy profit for not doing much work at all after getting the initial sale.
 
Excellent Guide OP. It really helped a lot to understand the proper use of 301 shortners for newbies like us But I would appreciate if you could update the thread OP for 2 reasons.

1. There are couple of unanswered queries on this page which needs your attention and reply for new comers like me.
2. Things get change drastically in Seo and some might not work today so I would appreciate if you want to UPDATE something in this method.

I would appreciate your time to post a detailed reply in this thread when you have some spare time for the help of noobs like us.

300k links gsa+scrapebox spread over 15-25 days
10k sent to index /day
rankings came back and steadily increasing ..maybe sandbox or somethink !

Have you tried targeting low-medium competitive keywords in HubPages and if so with what results ?
