I realize the title may be impossible, but it's what I'm looking for. I'm tired of slow WordPress hosting and I want to start up my own VPS to offer hosting to my clients.

I will need cpanel on the account.

I'm not very knowledgeable in the area of VPSs yet, so any help would be great.

If I could buy form someone on BHW I would prefer it, but if you know of a great, affordable provider elsewhere I would like to take a look at them.

You could try virpus.com. they start at $7 month-to-month.

Also feel free to check out lowendbox.com for a list of companies providing cheap vps's with features enough to get you started.

HTH

cheers,

This www . thrustvps . com seems very very promising and well rounded. You might want to check it out.

First off - where do you want to host it.
Secondly - whats your budget.

To put the price / quality thing into perspective a cPanel license for a VPS is around $15. Depending on your chosen provider, they could buy bulk licenses which may bring it down to around $5 per license.

Anyone selling a full cpanel VPS for less than $10 could be massively overselling their node and you will have problems in the long run.

Somewhere in America.. I'm on the west coast.

So it sounds like I shouldn't go for anything under $20 / month.. would that be accurate?

I'm want to start off small / as cheap as possible while I try to build my hosting client base and determine if hosting is for me.

I've been using Linode for quite some time now.
Love their services and customer support, no complaints here!

I use Knownhost. Little expensive but service second to none.

KnownHost has a very solid reputation, so +1 from me on KnownHost. You can get a VPS from them that's hosted in California or Texas. As mentioned, they're a little more expensive, but well worth it based on my extensive research. Another option for a provider with a solid reputation is DowntownHost.

In my experience over the years, it's not good to cut corners on an iffy hosting provider. Especially if you're going to be reselling/hosting clients.

Agree with Jayemdae.

If you are going to start a web hosting service then better buy a VPS with good uptime and unless you have support stuff or you are going to do it full time better go for a Good Managed VPS provider.
