I'm looking for a cheap way of setting up a hotspot using esim only for using this service which seems to be great: silent.link
On the ground here in Asia just getting to the point where they understand that I'm looking for an esim phone only requires some genuine effort even at the booths where the vendors have a good command of English, and then immediately its a no or some new, expensive phone is offered.
I could get an old Pixel 3 or something like this, but the whole point is really to not ever use any smartphone in the setup, I'd like to have a hotspot that is totally dumb, to then build up a totally separate old laptop running Qubes, bought cash and working from crowded places only ;-) Not planning anything illegal at all, this is just part of getting max opsec as a case only, as well as getting to the point where I know I've done what I can. I simply will not go along with the surveillance thing, never have and won't back down now that it really starts mattering.
There are some options like Samsung Gear watches, but ideally it would be a dumb hotspot as described. Maybe this can even be hacked using an old, rooted Android phone by force installing packets? Or does it require hardware.
Seems to me that the whole esim game is so much part of the new surveillance grid that not many have even gotten around to hacking and dealing with it, apart from silent.link of course!
To clarify I have not used the service yet, but its certainly on top of my list once I locate a device that I can buy cash ;-)
