Godaddy is a scam. They lure buyers making them think they will get a com domain for $1 but they offer that only if you buy it for 2 years.
And what is the renewal price? $18. So you end up paying full price for 2 years upfront.
Go to https://tld-list.com/tld/com and see the current prices yourself. Just disregard Godaddy. Godaddy does misleading marketing.

They've recently make some changes, you can have a domain for $1 only if you are buying for more than a year, the first year will be $1 and the subsequent years normal price.
