What is managed shared hosting? I've never seen such thing

It is shared hosting service where the service provider helps manage your setup and usually websites as well. It's not that common + it's quite a lot more expensive.

and most problematic too for different reasons. i.e. if you're being ddos'd they will terminate you because you're affecting other users

Yes, that's how it works, and there's nothing wrong with it. If you expect to get DDOSed, you should not use shared hosting because your website will cause many issues for other people who are also paying for the service.

yeah, so i think that webhosting is a very bad solution. just get a vps or dedicated service, they are not that expensive.
