What model of chatgpt and what prompt are you using to get instant buying results?

I tried searching for "I am looking for lightweight trail running shirts that stay cool, can you help?" and I got bullet points instead of product cards.

I got product cards once, but now it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it is because of the location?

What am I doing wrong?

You’re not doing anything wrong. Product cards appear only when GPT has enough shopping data for your query and region.
Use GPT-5.1 and a direct buying prompt like:
Search the web and show me the best lightweight trail-running shirts with product cards.
If the data isn’t available, it defaults to standard text.

in my POV It’s just inconsistent UI testing on OpenAI’s side, not your prompt nothing you’re doing wrong.

Hey onedaydayone!

I’m getting product cards consistently with GPT-4o and this kind of prompt:

“Act as a Shopify store assistant. The user says: ‘I’m looking for lightweight trail running shirts that stay cool’. Show me 4 relevant products with image, title, price, and a short description. Format exactly like Shopify product cards.”

Works every time for me (EU location). Try forcing the “4 products” part and “format like Shopify product cards” – that usually does the trick.

They appear only if shopping is active in your region/account.

Exactly. It doesn't make much sense to try to force the product cards otherwise. I don't really think Shopify has any particularly useful ChatGPT integration anyway besides a crummy live chat bot.
