ChatGPT is now Chat.com!

i hate this guy, such a cringe flexer how he positions himself

Alright, so... Why everyone’s fired up about Sam buying Chat.com?

Imagine a new coffee shop opens in town, and everyone’s like, "alright, finally, a place for us regular folks to grab a quick coffee without all the fancy stuff."

Then, suddenly, the owner is like, "hey, guess what? I just bought Coffee.com!"

Now, this humble little shop has the power to influence how coffee is viewed across the whole internet!

People would be like, "Wait, what? I thought you were just here to serve us a latte!"

For people who love the original vibe of Chat.com (simple, straightforward, and about talking), seeing someone snap it up for big business is like having their favorite low-key spot turned into a trendy franchise.

But here’s the genius behind the move (whether we like it or not) buying Chat.com is Sam getting his hands on a top-shelf domain.

This is like owning the rights to Books.com or Pizza.com. It’s instantly recognizable, easy to remember, and, let’s be real, "chat" is what people do everywhere online, whether it’s messaging, customer service, or social media. It’s basically gold in domain form.

From a business perspective, Sam’s playing 3D chess here.

He’s not just thinking about today, he’s staking a claim on a domain that could become the go-to spot for all things messaging and chatting in the future.

And whether people stay mad about it or not, Chat.com is now linked with him, and that alone builds brand credibility and trust (like it or not).

I'm curious... does it really matter? I suppose long term it might be better - but for a short term there would probably be a bit of brand confusion (because people are "used" to "chatgpt")...

I don't think it is necessary, but I 'spose if you have $15 million lying around, already own a bunch of companies, houses, jets, etc... already played enough poker & blackjack at the 'high high' limit tables and still have $15 million to spend, and not sure on what... why not? :)

I think they're investing for their long-term goals. I support anyone or anything against Google's monopoly and Open AI is one of them.

He definitely paid more than 15 million for it .
Previous owner who is also the founder and CTO of HubSpot, purchased the domain for $15 million last year. He has now sold it to Sam, and it's certainly for more than $15 million.

They must've paid a lot of money., also the domain name is much better than gpt.

Most likely, he bought it to stop anyone else using it. So maybe they won't actually use it to replace ChatGPT. Maybe they'll use it on a particular service. ChatGPT is already an established brand, although I've never liked it. 'Chat' is a cheap word. It's talk of no value. ChatGPT can do so many fantastic things that are extremely valuable. Labeling its capabilities with a minifying word like 'chat' always struck me as weird. They should have created a new word that was cool, catchy and memorable.

well they love to rebrand things when something is wrong, to me rebrand is we did bad and with a new image, apperance and slogan we can start from scratch again, so what they think they did wrong for this to happen??
