I got my first client for SEO work!

Problem is, I don't know what I should be charging him. Does anyone know what a good rate is? I'm thinking a monthly fee...but how much? $40 or $400?

Most of the work I get done through sites like fiverr, a few I do myself.

Id appreciate some insight on this.

Congrats for you first client I think 300$ is the best price.the rest depending on the project...
 
great depending on the work you are doing and how many hours you are putting in to the seo work but $300 sounds about right

1) Think what you are going to do.
2) Construct a plan for a monthly SEO project X6 months.
3) Think as if you are a service provider and not a project provider.
4) Price your one-time projects. (Articles, Comments, etc.) and calculate how many of what you do each month.
5) take % off the regular price since it's a long term customer and calculate the project per month.
7) Charge the customer.

There you go, the system at its best. What others charge means ZIP. I can charge $200 for Article marketing and I can charge $900 for all-in-one.

SEnuke users: How much do you charge and how do you determine what to charge? Obviously, Senuke X does all the work but curious what people charge.
 
For my clients, I usually try and get a monthly fee that equals 1-2 of one of their clients (unless they're a restaurant or something).

Make sure all your costs are covered (INCLUDING TIME), and then mark up the price. My clients pay anywhere from a 100% to a 1000% markup.

Be sure you are providing value so they have no problem paying you. Congrats again on your first client.

You are out of your mind if you charge under $1000 a month. Trust me you will regret it later. I don't care if you use fivver or not, there is still the matter of doing keyword research, checking stats, making reports and whatever time you have to spend doing anything else manually. I have clients that pay $4000 a month and that is the low end for seo services. Do some research. Its called Google.

I think you're better charging a flat fee per month, If you want to pay yourself $ 40.00 per hour AFTER outsourcing fees then fair enough but I'd never be too quick to disclose an hourly rate to a client.

Also, people who don't fully understand what you're doing can be dubious as to 'how much' or 'how little' work may be done in an hour.

When dealing with people I think they much prefer to see:

100 x Links
100 x Social Bookmarks
10 x Articles
etc

The fact that they see numbers automatically gives the impression of providing value and they now exactly what to expect each month........

If you're selling to a someone who's earning less than you and you tell them you charge $ xx.xx per hour - they could end up thinking that you're trying to take the piss.

A huge congrats on scoring your first client though - keep it up!!!
 
There are too many unknown variables. What country, how competitive the market, do you actually want to provide an increase in rankings, or just show him links.

People are saying $300/month. I wouldn't do any work for any client for $300/month, it's not worth my time. What I do works well and my clients pay me accordingly.

If you do quality work, charge quality prices.

My two businesses charge from $20/mo up to $2,200 every 6 months. It all depends on what you can offer.
 
It truly just depends on what keywords your ranking for and how much time will be put into your linking.

The majority of my clients try and rank for mid-competition keywords and I charge them 200-300 a month.
 
wow. If you guys are willing to SEO for that cheap maybe I will start just outsourcing all my clients to you. lol. I charge at least $1300 a month on a 12 month contract. and then $950 a month for every social media account they want me to manage.

The 1300 a month is great. Where you lost me at is the 950 per social media account. Do you mean "social media marketing", or if you set up a "twitter" account...that's $950 a month to manage it?

Yeah I mean "Social Media Marketing". I charge them $950/month per account. So if they want me to manage their facebook and twitter accounts. $950 X 2 = $1900.

Never sell myself cheap. All my clients are high quality clients that appreciate what I do and understand how important I am in their marketing efforts. I get people all the time trying to barter me to do it cheaper and I deny them. If they are already trying to be cheap then I know they will be a hassle and end up costing me more time then 2 of my $1300 a month clients.
