Hey there everyone. Been a bit busy the last couple of days -- going on a camping trip for the next 2 days and had to get ready.

So, I got up this morning to get ready to go camping and guess what? A fucking chargeback! There's nothing about business which rankles me more than a chargeback. I mean what exactly is so hard about emailing me and saying that your card was taken? Me issuing a refund costs me nothing, but a chargeback costs me straight from my pocket! How do you all deal with this? Are there any companies out there you work with that are better than PayPal for this? I also use Google Checkout.

Anyway, I'll be gone the next couple of days so I won't be able to respond to you, but I will check this as soon as I get back so thanks in advance to those who offer their advice.

If you want to decrease chargebacks give your customers a guarantee or over deliver on a product.

If someone used a stolen card, or a phished card number, usually the real owner of the card would simply call their bank and have them reverse the unauthorised transaction, this is why it results in a chargeback. Many times people would not bother to investigate by themselves where the fraudulent charges came from.

This is an old thread, but I've tried something which has reduced my chargebacks to zero, so I thought I'd share. I decided that I'd use Skype to call everyone who makes a purchase before issuing a license key. They never end up with my phone number, I've caught 2 cases of theft, and I've wiped out chargebacks. Of course, there is a bit of a fee for international calls, but it's nothing compared to the annoyance and cost of a chargeback.

Hope this helps someone else too.

Western Union is chargeback proof.

USPS Money Orders can be forged but they can also be CASHED at the post office and you don' send anything until you are certain that the money order is a good one.

MOs from "Jimmy-John's Convienience Store" get nothing sent to them until 21 banking days have passed.

WU and other chargeback proof services are really up and coming.

"Fuck you! Pay me!"

Call back works, but I think it turns people off. I know I wouldn't go for it. I don't want to give number out, talk to some guy who probably forgets to check the timezone.

Egold is dead. WU is a pain in the ass.

I understand your point. I actually do check timezones before contacting people and have not had anyone upset by the process. Your results may vary.

I would take strong issue with you on WU being a pain in the ass!

You can even send online and the recipient can pick up a check which they then CASH right there, right then and THAT, Ladies and Gentlemen is a CHARGEBACK-PROOF sale!

Crikey, you can send or recieve from literally thousands of locations; I have FOUR WU stations within 2 miles of where I live.

If the customer doesn't want to send WU, tough titty!

People will ell you that only scammers insist on WU but oddly enough, WU use is on the rise preciesly BECAUSE scammers do chargebacks on other payment services.

You don't want to pay me via WU, there is someone in line right behind you who will and pay gladly.

I'd rather "lose" a sale over payment methods than deal with a chargeback which will cost me every dime that I made on the sale in the first place and more.

Moneybookers is good against chargebacks also.

No fun doing a bunch of work and then getting a chargeback.

My $.02.

"I have FOUR WU stations within 2 miles of where I live."

That's YOU.

"If the customer doesn't want to send WU, tough titty!"

Yes, for YOU.

"You don't want to pay me via WU, there is someone in line right behind you who will and pay gladly."

There's a business plan! Give up every other sale.

They have a 3k limit I remember and even close to a thousand dollars several times was a problem for me. Very noisey people.

Moneybookers is the scammers favourite of the moment having replaced Egold.

Google Checkout is free to use and I haven't heard the complaints I have with PayPal.

I have had a chargeback on Google's Checkout too.
