Changing URL from subdirectory to subdomain

I have a good ranking website which has a php app on mydomai/app, my question is, can I change it to app.mydomain without it affecting rankings in any way? Is it risky?

Logically both are same you wont loose any ranking but still don't go on my words do your research

it's risky. Better replicate the app page on your subdomain first, then 301 redirect the old URL to the new one, but even so I'm not sure the rankings will stick

any changes leads to re rank. If your post is same you will rank again to that position only. possibly 2-3 rank ahead or back. no more big changes
