Changing Title makes SERP Down?

You know those radios where the tuning happens only on a sweet spot? And also other radios that tune on a wider range?

Google only "tunes" in short ranges....if you had #1 ranking with A B C, I would not have changed it to C B A, because that's like messing with the tuning dial, you've tuned it somewhere else now.

But I wasn't targeting for the A.B.C at all. I just changed because C is eye catching to my target audience.

C >> B and A both. That's I made the placement changes.

In your terms What I should do now?

Every single change has an impact as google algorithms are pretty complicate and fragile at once.

Once i had a site staying on #2 for years and a customer notified me about a potential misunderstanding, and i added a single comma in the title and the dance began....
Ahh, now it makes sense; my website went down after i changed the title of homepage. Did you try changing back, did you see any improvements?

Did you changed back to original one and saw improvement?

I just changed back yesterday, i didn't realise that changing the title of the homepage, would make rankings drop. Howerver, for me it's not the title of the website, is just the title of the page i set as homepage.

Like said before...patience is the key. Give it 2 weeks top to settle and decide from there. Changing your titles will affect ur serp position ( basic seo rule). For a proxy provider i recomand MaxiProxie ( a member here). Good luck.

Why did you make such a change when all you did is interchange positions. Its important to get things right from the start.

I understand that and what you did is not wrong at all, I'm just explaining why your ranking changed. Google's algo is very very picky, because there are too many sites.

Sometimes removing the main KW from the title and adding a synonym to it helps as long as you have the KW in your content. Sometimes just the KW in the title does the trick. Sometimes having related content and a bunch of links including the KW does the trick.

There is no magic formula. If I could tell you do 1 2 3 and rank #1, I'd be a magician. You gotta A/B test, now you know C B A ranks worse than A B C, so I'd return it to A B C and include the KW in the main content and see what happens.

I just lost my rankings after I changed a few words on my main homepage (100k keywords, medium comp.)

I've experienced this with a couple of other websites!

Yep, it can definitely make a difference.

The fact that you just rearranged them, though, and you saw and INSTANT drop, makes me wonder if something else is at hand here, though. Were you doing anything else like linkbuilding, too? It's possible that it was actually a different change and the timing was coincidental.

I don't think it will affect any thing badly. Since, you have just rearrange the words. But, It may cause dance for some times, then it will be back to its normal position..

Google has this little thing it does. Its called first priority.

It means things near the beginning of something has more influence on that particular thing than the one near the end.

So the begining of a title has more influence on the focus than the end. Same thing with paragraphs, sentences, blocks of text, location of text on a page, even the first link on a page is more powerful than links further down the page.

I explain it to my students this way:

There are three ways to use a title for a small businesses.

To emphasize the brand name of the business
To emphasize the service or keyword
To emphasize the location of the business.

Lets suppose your customer is "Larry's Transmission Service", that the keyword that you are targeting is "affordable transmission repair" and the business is located in Chicago.

This is a typical title emphasizing the keyword first, the location second, and the Brand last.
"Affordable transmission repair - Chicago - Larrys Transmission Service"

If you wanted to emphasize the location first then the keyword, you would do something like this:
"For Chicago's most affordable transmission repair, call Larry's"

If if the businesses' brand name receives search volume, you may decide to emphasize this brand name first on some pages.

For instance
"Larry's transmission service, affordable transmission repair - Chicago" (brand first, keyword second, location last)
or
"Larry's transmission service, Chicago - Affordable Transmission repair" (brand first, location next, keyword last)

What you did when you wrote the original title was tell the search engines that "A" was more important than "B", and "B" was more important than "C". Since the single most powerful part of on page SEO is the title, it has a huge influence on the ranking of the page. (which is why each title needs to be unique to that page, not the same title on every page of the site)

So Google ranked your page accordingly.

Then you went in and changed the importance by shifting the words around, and telling the search engines that "C" was more important that "A".

So google re-ranked your site with this new info.

Now add to this that Google bounces site ranking all the time. If you see a fall in rankings today, you should not react to it. You should watch it. It might be a glitch.

It is possible that yor site was on a honeymoon, and the real ranking kicked in about the time you made the change, allowing you to add 2 + 2 and come up with 6000.

It is possible that your site was ranking and incurred a penalty from link-building.

Hello,

This is the first time when my domain came up to the 11th Rank on the Google.com for the keyword. It came directly come from the 300+ Rank to the 11th rank.

Things I did:

1. The Web2.0s which I made initially, I spammed those Web 2.0s with GSA.

2. I ordered some 10 High Quality Social Bookmarking from the Fiverr.com

Let me know if it's a temporary thing or what?

What thing I should do now.. or steps?

Thanks everyone :)

Hi,

This will shuffle your keywords ranking. But it will come back soon,

In case it wasn't brought up before in the thread, my understanding is Google weighs the first 3-5 words in an url more heavily than the subsequent words for ranking purposes. So if the keyword is moved from towards the start of a title to the end of a title in the url, that would result in it dropping in rank.

Update: Site is fallen from 11th rank to 14th and now 17th :(
