Hello All, 3 months ago, i bought an instagram account in tv show niche and converted it to a personal travel instagram page but since then everything goes downwards, i was of course expecting a decrease in follower count and engagement but its far worse then i anticipated, any ideas what was the reason. I lost around 10K followers and my engagement is now around 100 likes for a 169K account.
I also noticed when i followed this account from one of my other new accounts, all suggestions under my profile is related to the old niche! Is it possible to trigger IG algorithm to understand my new niche. I have archived old posts when i converted instead of deleting them, could this be the reason? If i delete all those old posts in Archive, could this possibly help?
Does anybody have a similar experience? Thanks

Is the content you are posting now similar to the one that was? Maybe just target audiences for your niche and for the one in which the account was different? If we are talking about solving the unsubscribe problem, I see several ways. Revise the content and understand what this audience really would like, or direct efforts to attract new subscribers by ignoring those who have left. Better, of course, in a complex and this and that.
I had experience with purchasing an account, but not an Instagram account, but a VK group. in the first month, out of 70k subscribers, about 10 thousand unsubscribed, the only thing that helped to keep (although I think the old ones continued to unsubscribe just new ones came) are contests. The niche was computer games and it was easy to attract on giveaways

I bought the account with one purpose, which was to convert it to my personal travel photography page since i am also a photographer. So changing back to what they want is not an option for me unless i sell the account and move on. Of course the niche is different now than they were expecting but not like changing a gaming account to a forex trading account. The content I am sharinga supposed to appeal to a wide audience as I am posting high quality travel photos from around the world.
My assumption is instagram might be still targeting the fans of that tv show even though I am using related Hashtags for the new niche. When I look at the statistics the reach is only around 3K which is very low for a 169K account, so there must be a problem somewhere but i couldn't figure it out.

Should bought an travel/photography account instead, I bet that would be much easier to switch to personal travel/photography account, but those accounts might be more expensive I guess

Yes, definitely! Now with the experience, i can comfirm that for sure, but at that time this account with its selling price appealed to me and i went for it, but it didn't work out well!

But you could turn it back to the old niche, and grow it for some months, maybe promote products/sell shoutouts, and sell it for profit, and then buy a travel related account?

A lot of people making money selling it accounts, they grow the account followers and sell it for 500 or more.

You switched the niche and that's way people are leaving and don't give you engagement. You can curate the follower base using this method, but if I was you I would just dump it and start a new one, or buy one that's exactly your niche.

That's terrible engagement. No one wouldn't bother to set a decent price for an account that appears botted. Buy one in travel niche. 100 likes is way beyond futile.

I've the same opinion.
169k followers and 100 likes? I've done some niche switches already in some of mine accounts and the engagement continues pretty good after switching. (probably 3%-6% loss max)

Thanks for the suggestion, i actually ordered the service you mentioned from the link in the post without looking other pages of the post and then noticed that the post is locked since the poster was not replying messages anymore, hopefully i didn't make the payment for nothing, lol!

I managed the page in the begining just like the old owner for a while and the engagement was actually fine, it started to tank when i converted it to something else, in my opinion at that time travel photos could appeal to everyone, but it seems it wasn't the case.

My main objective with this account is not really making money (i have other accounts for that) it was aimed to feed my personal satisfaction as i am also a photographer, but with this terrible engagement it became the source of my unhappiness quite ironically, i don't even want to share something anymore as the engagement is very poor, but the stories are somewhat better like 2-3K reach. I am desperate to know why my posts aren't being shown to even %10 of my followers, but you never know what is going on with instagram's algorithm nowadays :)

Based on my experience:
Instagram can see or knows your exact niche based on the collection of photos using AI. Once you change niche it punishes you to protect followers.

Imagine you follow a car page and all of a sudden this becomes a travel page. Instagram wants to protect against unsatisfacion. The whole purpose of IG is to keep people hooked.

Hmm not totally true.

I bought one +60k account in horror niche, renamed it ti make money / millionaire one.
Account drop : -20k followers , but engagement is very high. Now followers's number is not dropping down anymore.

Interesting , did you apply any specific method like not posting for some time or deleting old posts etc.?
