I have 10 linkwheels that point the a focus site. That site has now been taken offline.

Would there be any negative effect if I go and change all the links to the focus site to another site I own?

well if the original focus site is gone then you might as well change the links if it's an option. The only negative is if once you do that, google might notice the footprint of your linkwheel. If it was working then I think that just leaving the linkwheel out there wasted on a nonexistant site is a bigger negative.

It would be best if the new focus site is still relevant to the articles and sites in your wheel, and depending on how many links your talking about it might be a good idea to change them over a few days (or a week or so if there's a lot) instead of doing it all in an hour or so. If its 10 links maybe change just 1 or 2 every day or so.

    Hi GreyWolf,

Yes I was thinking bout going through the sites over a few weeks and chaning to the new focus site. The new site is still the same topic.

I was also going to create a new post on each web 2.0 site and ping and social bookmark that new post

I'd say theres around 60 links points to the focus site. Not massive but a decent amount.

They worked great for my old site as I got to Number 1 in google

If it helped that much before, and the new site is still relevant then I'd say it's worth the risk. Since your talking about changing 60 links and linkwheels leave such a footprint, I'd probably take it slow and change it over the course of about 4 to 6 weeks just to be safe. That's just changing a couple links every day or two. I'm sure you could do it a lot faster and be just fine, but if it works that well for you then I'd want to be extra cautious.

You should post back here when your done and let us know what kind of results you get for the new focus site.

edit - Actually you could probably do just fine even with changing 3 or 4 every day or two. I'm just being really conservative about it I think. lol

I think I will take it slow over 2-3 weeks just to be safe.

    I'll keep you updated
