Yes, you'll definitely have to cancel your static plan. You won't be able to change your home IP otherwise, by definition.

If you have DSL, that's probably all you'll need. From then on you can powercycle your DSL modem to get a new IP (not elegant) or do a release/renew on whatever device is plugged into to DSL modem... your router if you have one, or the computer if it's directly connected.

If you have cable, then you'll likely have to do an extra step with the MAC address change... either on your router, or your computer if it's directly connected to the cable modem.

But first yeah, cancel that static IP... or nothing else will work to change your home IP, you'll have to use proxies.

Chaning MAC ID always helps it makes the ISP think u r using a new computer

router is the easiest to do... releasing doenst work with My isp I got a wireless router and just manual change the MAC to w.e number u want each number is a diff ip over 2000 to choose from.

this is something that's always been a pain in the ass for me for some reason. I have embarq dsl and a linksys router that allows mac cloning, im 110% sure I have a dynamic ip (actually called them to make sure), and Ive had the same ip for months. Tried unplugging modem, then tried unplugging modem and changing mac address on the router, then tried unplugging modem, changing mac address, unplugging router, taking a shit, then plugging it back in. same ip as always. does embarq just hate me?
 
you sure your IP did not change ? ;)
Cable providers usually give static IPs but DSL usually dynamic.

depends on the provider, if it's not changing even if your routers mac changed, well maybe they just force the IP by your credentials.
There is no way to change it then, would be a static IP I guess.

But to be honest, changing IPs like that sux anyway ^^
Maybe ok for a few accounts and small stuff, but not suitable for anything serious (or potential unlawfull of course)
 
I'm well aware of how to cloak my surfing if I needed too, but it's more for a local site that I promote on, like a mini craigslist, so not a huge deal but would be decent if I could figure out it regardless.
 
I guess a call to your provider could help, tell them you test the ip daily and it stays the same.
But honestly I prefer static IPs.
You can run services on them, nameservers and other stuff.
Usually DSL is very stable, from my experience even more stable than many professional hosters are.
So for small stuff it might be a nice (and free) way to host.

personal nameservers, a ftp/ssh dump for fileaccess from everywhere, etc
 
lol yeah I have plenty of paid hosting I can use, and probably use 10% of my resources as is, im just really fucking off with this and curious if I am just being retarded.
