Hello,

I have niche affiliate website and made the mistake of using the main kw in my url. I want to switch to a more broad url so that i can write more articles that arent as relevant to the url now.

Is this doable while still keeping the original Seo metrics and keyword rankings?

For example, switching from apples.com to fruits.com

Or is this a bad idea and maybe i should just write the other articles with the same url now?

Any advice is appreciated thanks!

i don't think exact keyword in domain is an issue, domain can be any thing and you can write fresh and unique article

Thanks for the advice. What if i want to expand content and the url is really specific? You think it doesnt matter?

I see a lot of EMD (exact match domains) ranking for other keywords/products as well. I doubt the domain really plays a role to your visitors. Go ahead and expand!

Thanks for the advice illI go for it

If you move your site to a new domain, then 301 redirect from old domain to the new is the way to do it. It's not guaranteed to be the same, but this is how it works in theory. If you don't want to risk with losing a bit of rankings and traffic, then keep using the old domain.

Your SEO ranking doesn't really rely on your domain name. If you're getting organic traffic and you don't want to confuse your visitors, this can give rise to a problem, but if this is not the case, then I guess, you wouldn't have to worry about it. Page redirection can be your assurance, on the other hand. -Micah
