Changing a PR4 site to new topic/subject/niche?

Guys,

I picked up a PR4 domain with little backlinks and totally unrelated to my niche. I would like to use it for good link juice to my main niche, maybe develop it a bit then sell it.
I have a few questions on what to do with this puppy.........

Can I change the theme/niche of the site?
How to go about changing the site to a different topic?
DO I just start with fresh new material, add a few articles and slowly build it up again?
What other steps should I take to change the niche/theme of the site?

ANY info to get me started in the right direction is much appreciated!

Hey OP,

Your idea of buying an expired domain is a very common and effective strategy in getting a head start on your SEO as an aged and high PR domain is much easier and quicker to rank then a brand new site.

Now the way I choose my domains is based on a series of criteria that I have indicated below that I have found to be successful when searching for an expired domain.

1. High PR

2. Filter High PA/DA (use opensitexplorer by SEOmoz)

3. Good clean backlink profile (check via ahrefs and majestic historical view)

4. Check via waybackmachine to check for the content history the site used to have.

I'm not sure what the question is from the OP. Do you have a currwent PR4 you want to change, or are you planning to buy an expired domain and change it?
 
Thanks sdseoguru, Those are good points, what about a domain I just got and want to change to a different theme/niche, for example, lets say the domain used to be about computer hardware, but now I want to change it to be something in the health/skin field of interest, There are only a few backlinks coming from some directories, but the domain is PR4.
How should I go about changing the whole site, right now nothing is indexed and it hasn't been used in a while.
Should I just start a whole new site and don't worry about what was there before?

Sorry for such newbie questions, but there is SO much to learn about IM.

Fake PR, driven by one or two 301's.

In any case - changing the site to a new topic/niche is exactly what you do when you build a PBN. It's a good plan to stay remotely related, ie not change an aviation website to a veterinary website, but even if you do you'll still have a benefit - I just suggest the benefit is greater if you stay in some way connected to the original niche.
 
if you found good domain PR in lets say niche music and your niche is dating then what u do is
1) check if PR is fake 90% expired domains have fake PR
2) after installing/setting up WP get plugin "Simple 301 Redirect" and now go to MajesticSEO or Ahreafs to get most powerful backlinks to your domain
you copy to which page they linked and simple 301 redirect them to your Post/Article or simply to main page to keep the juice

that's should be enough info for your questions and yes you can flip a niche and wait it out 2-3 weeks before do tire 2 blast it will get your blogs DA/PA only stronger ;)

P.S. the PR actually google stop supporting so benefit of PR big or slow = 0 for example domains with DA20 PR0 will have more power then DA1 PR5

Ok Great advice....I checked all the backlinks and all the ones I see so far are directed to the main url.
I did check the PR and it is indeed PR4.
If this is the case, I guess I really don't have to 301 redirect them?

I will just start adding my new content and let the existing backinks give me the PR4 juice.

Any other ideas or advice>???

Find some Social Share apps and install it so is on automatic adds to every post bunch of options to share your article on fb/tw/g+ etc...
You can also find social follow us buttons all in 1 and connect ur blog with tw/fb/g+ etc... so every your post duplicates instantly on all this social networks
idk if u done this already but on site seo optimizations also big + like Title/description/keywords for your blog
same time author of articles should have a nice 100-250 Bio with picture etc... fake person as long as uniq there's tons of thinks u can do but this one most important of them all... good luck in ur journey

DO I have to do all these things just to keep the link juice, or is this a general good strategy overall?
I do this with my other main sites, just not sure how to keep the PR4 site upkeep until I decide what to do with it.
 
Dude, i've done this with all my domain for my pbn. Yes, the PR still sticks after you change the niche (if the pr is real and the links are still there).
Also a quick tip to get the most out for your domain - rebrand it as a personal blog if possible so you can post about all kinds of shit and don't worry about niche.
