Change YouTube thumbnail can drop rank?

Changing just the thumbnail does NOT cause your video to be re-ranked.
However, changing the title or description / tags, will cause a video to re-rank in search, and if a video was ranking highly in search it may need some time to regain its rank (or it might not do so, depending on changes made).

nope it wont. if it increases your ctr then you'll rank better. obviously if it causes less clicks, then yes it can ruin your rankings

That totally depends. If your new thumbnail is even more catchy than the previous one, then that could improving your ranking.
